Squadron Leader (Ret'd) Barry Mayner
On the 13th October, 2022, Squadron Leader (Ret’d) Barry Mayner flew his last sortie to the “Aviators Bar in the Sky”.
Many words can be used to describe this man, but as his son told me; “he was a man from a different age”. In a world where jet-powered aviation was rapidly developing, Barry played a significant role in the training and development of many fellow RAF aviators. With in excess of 2,500 flying hours on Phantoms and over 40 different aircraft types in his log book, he was a worldly wise gentleman with a huge depth of knowledge and his experiences were worthy of a book itself. There are many aviators who can attribute their successful flying career in part to Barry for his knowledge and skill imparted to them. Rest In Peace Barry Mayner – a true aviation legend. There will be no formal funeral service, however in the Spring/Summer 2023 there will be a short memorial service held in Glen Clova. Details to be advised at a later date.
